Architecture students (2022-27) from the College of Engineering Trivandrum, are creating an outdoor activity space for the fellows of the Center for Habilitation. The space is designed beside bamboo shoots and features seating areas constructed using upcycled bottles and a coir-knit roof. Over time, the roof will be adorned with creeping plants, adding to the space’s serene and inviting ambience. 30+ students took part in the creation of the space they named as Chilla@HIVE. This initiative highlights the students’ voluntary efforts and commitment to utilizing their architectural talents to create a lovely environment for the Center for Habilitation fellows.

Anannia and CareRevenue are jointly developing a platform to facilitate voluntary activities in disability-related initiatives. A formal meeting between the office bearers of Anannia and the officers in charge of the programme from Care Revenue, was held on December 12 at Kinfra Film and Video Park, Thiruvananthapuram, to discuss the details of the program’s formulation.

We are delighted to welcome Gopika Gopakumar Moothedath, a PhD scholar in Education from the University of Bath, who will be conducting research on early childhood education, to our Center for Child Development. Gopika is a recipient of the prestigious ESRC-SWDTP studentship awarded by UKRI (UK Government). Her PhD research, titled “Drama-Based Pedagogy for Marginalized Children in Indian Preschools: Research, Intervention, and Impact,” focuses on preschool children among tribal communities. Through her research, Gopika aims to study the existing teaching and learning pedagogy in preschools and develop a contextually relevant drama-based pedagogy with the teachers. She has joined our team as a Research Associate, and we look forward to this collaboration leading to a highly impactful research outcomes.

Despite enduring relentless “torture” at home and discrimination over his gender identity, Adam Harry, India’s first trans pilot, overcame these challenges to achieve a historic milestone (Deccan Chronicle News Report). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) introduction of new medical guidelines for transgender pilots, inspired in part by his battles, represents a landmark victory for the transgender community. This moment of progress highlights Harry’s resilience and determination, supported by Anannia which works towards inclusivity and justice. Anannia is extremely happy to have played a crucial role in helping Adam Harry’s fight against societal and familial oppression, enabling him to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot.
